Stepwise Experience
The URC has produced a short course to help people look at how we might lead a life of discipleship, how we might grow in our faith and how that might improve our life and other people’s lives. It is based on a series of workshops with short Bible passages to read and a small amount of homework to do in- between. Our very own Minister, David Downing, was on the team that wrote it and I and three members from Marlow followed it. (Because of Covid-19, we did the workshop sessions on-line and it worked very well and saved us travel time and costs.)
I would recommend the course whole-heartedly to everyone. It has got me thinking about how being a Christian has impacted on my life personally and what I can be doing now to live in a way that God might intend. There are things I can do in my life that affect the environment or social justice which anyone can do. There are also things I can do which are specifically Christian. How and when could we do them? Should we? Does it matter if we don’t?
These are questions we might be asking ourselves. A life of discipleship implies going out and doing things, but perhaps it also requires time spent thinking, being aware and listening to God. Stepwise is good step on the way to doing that.
There is a follow-up course called Faith Filled Worship which I am currently attending. For more information about either course, visit the URC’s Stepwise page.
